Kankakee Fire Chief Ron Young retiring

Kankakee Fire Chief Ron Young is retiring November 30th. He’s the third longest-serving fire chief in Kankakee's history. He has spent his entire career as a member of the Kankakee fire department, having been hired at the age of 22 back in 1984.

Young has served as chief the last 12 years. He was assistant chief for eight years.

Mayor Nina Epstein made the announcement of Young's resignation. She said Assistant Chief Phil Perkins will serve as interim-chief until Young’s replacement is named.
