Firefighters in Kanakakee responded to a residential fire about 3 am today in the 300-block of S. Cannon. Fire Chief Damon Schuldt reports extensive damage to the first floor and heat damage to the 2nd floor. The cause is under investigation, but arson is not believed to have been a factor. One occupants was treated for burn injuries, taken to a Chicago hospital in stable condition.
