Kankakee Fire joins ECDA Saturday hosting fire safety event for kids

The Economic and Community Development Agency along with the Kankakee Fire Department will be hosting a Fire Safety Event for kids on Saturday, March 19.  Children and their families are invited to come learn important fire safety lessons, play games, and meet Sparky at the KVPD Recreation Center located at 150 N Indiana Ave in Kankakee. Prizes will be raffled off to young participants.

Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan Laroche encourages all residents to make fire safety a priority in their homes. "It is important for everyone in the family to understand and learn fire safety,” he says. “Especially in the kitchen. Kitchen fires make up 49% of house fires." The City team hopes that by teaching fire safety through an event like this, they can reduce the chances of fire events in Kankakee homes.

“As part of our housing programs at ECDA, we want to provide interactive educational opportunities, where families can learn how to create healthier and safer homes.” says ECDA Director Brewer-Watson. “Learning about stove safety, creating a fire safety plan, and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are just some of the items that we need to remind residents to take more seriously within their homes. We hope that this event provides that reminder but in a fun and engaging way.”
