Kankakee Fire Leads to Two Arrests

A garage fire in Kankakee early Sunday did a reported $20,000 and two people were arrested for interfering with fire department response efforts. The fire was extinguished quickly with no injuries. But Kankakee fire chief Bryan LaRoche said a resident at the location and his father were arrested by City Police for Attempting to deny access and for their interference with fire suppression operations. The also allegedly lied to fire personnel about there being anyone else in the home.

The fire cause was under investigation. Three other residents were displaced, according to Chief LaRoche.

The fire department was called to the 600-block of W. Jeffery Street at 1:10 am. Fire was found in the attached garage and some of the interior ceiling of the home. Fire crews were on the scene about 2 hours. Mutual aid came from .Bradley, Bourbonnais and Limestone Fire.

A structure fire on S. Lincoln in Kankakee Friday did some $85,000 worth of damage and two firemen were injured.  Minor injuries were reported to the firemen. Residents were evacuated safely. Two neighboring homes were also damaged.... at 1436 E. Eagle and at 708 S. Lincoln. 

Fire Chief LaRoch reported the call was answered just before 3:30 am to 702 S. Lincoln.  Fire was found in the attached garage.  The fire extended next door to the residence at S. Eagle.  Both homes were heavily engulfed.  Damage was also reported south of the initial fire to 708 Lincoln. 

Fire units from the area also responded. The cause was being investigated. LaRoche reported the two rsidences had damags in excess of $85,000.  Another $10,000 damage to the neighboring houe on Lincoln.
