There is a flood warning on The Kankakee River has posed flooding concerns the last few days. The Iroquois River and Sugar Creek are listed on the NWS Flood Advisory list.
Now – the NWS is paying even more attention to the waterways following the weekend warm-up and more rain.
Ice jams have led to fluctuations in the readings – water levels had stabilized; now minor to moderate flooding is reported, with a fear of more to come.
A section of River Road, south of Kankakee, is closed due to flooding. The NWS is reporting from the Illinois/Indiana state line to IL/IN state line downstream to its merger with Iroquois River at Aroma Park, there’s been rises to keep people at attention.
Minor flooding is occurring and more is forecast.
The Kankakee County Highway Department has closed River Road (south of Kankakee) due to rising river levels resulting from an ice jam.
River Road has been closed from 4000S Road (Airport Road) to 7500S Road. Please find an alternate route.
The river will continue rising to near 6.4 feet by Friday morning. There is an ice jam at this location causing gauge readings to fluctuate.
