Kankakee: Home invasion, man robbed

Kankakee police are following up on leads in their investigation of a home invasion in which a man was beaten and robbed.

Police reports indicated a 26-year-old man returned to his West Station Street home about 10 pm Sunday after buying a pack of cigarettes at a store not too far away. A short time later, he heard a knock at his door. When he answered it, allegedly two black men in their 20s forced their way into the house and hit him in the face with a handgun.

The intruders went through his pockets and took about $85. A fight between the victim and the intruders broke out. The victim said the pair fled eastbound. Two women inside the house also described the incident in similar fashion.

Police said the victim said he believed the men were inside the neighborhood store when he bought the cigarettes and saw his cash as the purchase was made.
