Kankakee interim-police chief resigns

Following up on Kankakee Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong’s announcement that she plans to nominate former city patrolman Price Dumas as the new police chief, acting-chief Robin Passwater has resigned.

Passwater steps aside as the interim-chief effective today, June 1. He returns to his police lieutenant position in the department.

The City Council is expected to vote on the mayor’s nomination for police chief at the June 5th meeting.

The Daily-Journal reported Dumas, who’s now with the Illinois State Police, was part of a failed lawsuit against the city of Kankakee for alleged racial discrimination. Dumas left the police department three years later to join the state police.
