Kankakee man gets 8 years for forgery

Ernest Brookshaw was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday for forging a check from a Kankakee church.

The 46-year-old Brookshaw forged the check from Pentecostal Powerhouse Church in 2014.

Brookshaw also is facing burglary and theft charges after stealing cigarettes and lottery tickets from a Kankakee store in 2016. He was arrested after he attempted to cash a winning ticket at a convenience store. If convicted, he faces up to an additional seven years in prison.
