Kankakee man indicted in courthouse shooting

The Kankakee County grand jury has indicted 23-year-old Miguel Andrade on 2-counts of second-degree murder in the August 26 shootout outside the Kankakee County Courthouse.  Andrade is charged with the shooting death of 24-year-old Antonio Hernandez of Waukegan.  Police called it an ambush on three men that was triggered by an internal gang dispute.

Andrade was arraigned Monday before Kankakee County Circuit Judge Kathy Bradshaw-Elliott.  Bonis set at $3-million with new charges including first-degree murder and possession of a firearm.

The Dail;y-Journal reports Andrade, his cousin Victor Andrade of Kankakee, and another 28-year-old man were ambushed by Hernandez as they walked from the courthouse to a parking lot south of the building.   Police said Victor was Hernandez's intended target.  Police said Hernandez shot and killed Victor and seriously wounded the other man before being shot and bludgeoned by Miguel. Police further said Miguel used an assault rifle that he retrieved from a vehicle after Hernandez began shooting.

Miguel surrendered peacefully to two Momence police officers after he killed Hernandez, according to police.
