Kankakee man shot and killed

A 36-yr-old man was shot and killed in Kankakee (Thursday) in what city police say was a drug-related incident. Darrell Simmons was found at an apartment in the 300-block of N. Harrison Avenue. Simmons was one of two men shot, according to police.

A shots-fired report alerted officers in the area and found Simmons in an apartment. He died at AMITA Health St. Mary's Hospital a short time later.  Police say that Simmons was targeted in the shooting. No arrests have been made.

There was also a second shooting Friday morning not far from where Simmons was shot.

34-year-old Jeffery Lawson of St. Anne man was shot by a drive-by shooter around 11:20 am on North New Street. The injury was not life-threatening. Lawson was discharged from the hospital and taken into custody on a U.S. Marshal’s warrant related to a weapon violation.
