Kankakee Mayor Nina Epstein announced (Thursday) she will seek a third term in office. Her announcement candidacy was made in front of supporters in downtown Kankakee.
The spring election, she said, will focus on three factors --- leadership, experience and progress.

Epstein said she’s the person for the job. She told supporters "The city is at a turning point as we see a rebirth of our downtown, millions of dollars in commercial development, significant new housing projects and a stable financial outlook." She said “To make a change at this juncture would take the city in the wrong direction.”

The mayor said "The right person for the job is one that has proven experience, proven leadership and who understands the intricacies of this very large entity. “
The Republican Epstein won the municipal election in April 2013 with 58% of the vote over her Democratic opponent Jarman Porter.

No other candidate has announced their candidacy so far.
