Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis extended his appreciation to the efforts of police agencies and his community's public works crew for helping resolve a tragic situation in the community Thursday. Curtis said "it's becoming all too common in connunities and is has to stop." He said police efforts, public works helping to close off roads and other resources made it quick action to get the suspects in custody.
Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater has identified the men killed and the arrested suspect, calling it "an internal gang-related fight." The double homicide investigation continues. The chief said investigators feel there is no threat to the community.
Passwater identified the two men killed as 26-year-old Victor Andrade of Kankakee, and 24-year-old Antonio Hernandez of Waukegan. The third gunshot victim is a 28-year-old man not identified. He was treated at a Kankakee hospital.
Kankakee police arrested 23-year-old Miguel A. Andrade of Kankakee. The chief said he's a cousin of Victor Andrade.
Preliminary charges against Miguel Andrade include murder and possession of a stolen firearm.
