Kankakee moves forward on residential apartment complex

A new downtown Kankakee apartment complex could be ready to occupy in 2017.

A 35-unit apartment project, at East Avenue and Station Street, has been on the drawing board for several months. The Kankakee City Council (Monday) approved the use of $1.5 million in Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) for the residential development.

The apartments would be one or two-bedroom, with hardwood floors and in-house washer/dryers, and covered, secure parking. The rent would range from $700 to $1250 per month. Groundbreaking is likely by late December.
