The City of Kankakee is announcing the resignation of Deputy Fire Chief Adam Heid. The Mayor’s office states in a press release that Heid will remain with the Kankakee Fire Department, returning to his previous rank of Captain, effective Tuesday, December 9.
Deputy Heid has chosen to step down from his position to allow more time and attend to his responsibilities and obligations to his family. Heid has been deputy chief since June of 2021. Mayor Chris Curtis said Heid is a key member of the department, thanking him for his leadership, dedication and contributions over the last four-plus years. The mayor said the administration will meet internally to discuss the next steps, but he added, the fire department will not be immediately naming or appointing a new Deputy Chief.
