Kankakee’s Merchant Street Musicfest rousing success

The accolades have been pouring in even before the Merchant Street Musicfest was over. All the numbers were being compiled Sunday while organizers and volunteers cleaned up in-and-around the Depot Park area in Kankakee.

The weekend event attracted thousands and organizers were all smiles Sunday as tents were taken down, left-over inventory was accounted for, and talks already underway for next year.

The 9th annual Musicfest featured music for everyone – including rock bands, blues, country, folk, funk, and jazz. Three stages were set up to accommodate everyone around the Depot and water fountain. Thirty-one different bands had been lined up.

Kankakee's Director of Economic Development, Bill Yohnka, expressed his tanks to the city departments for their cooperation and help in making it all run smoothly.

Kankakee's public works employees, police and fire, and utility companies all contributed during the fest which ran Friday evening through Saturday night.
