Kankakee shooter faces federal charges

The arrest of 24-year-old Sentray Coney last Monday for firing gunshots in Kankakee has him now facing federal charges. Coney was arrested after he jumped from a van and tried to run from police.

Police reported Coney tried to ditch a weapon he had in his possession. He was part of a group of people in a van that was stopped on E. Bourbonnais Street a couple of hours after gunfire and a series of fights broke out outside the Whatever Bar on South East Avenue.

The gunfire outside the bar resulted in one man left dead and a handful of others injured.

At the time of his arrest Monday, Coney was on parole after serving prison time for unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member. Police have not linked Coney to the fatal shooting outside of the bar.
