Kankakee Shooting Leaves Man Dead

A shooting on Kankakee’s east side Sunday left a man dead. The 35-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. Kankakee City Police and the Kankakee County Coroner’s office are investigating. A press release states police responded to shots fired at an apartment building just before 6 pm. It was in the 1200-block of E. Oak Street.

A caller informed dispatchers that someone was attempting to break into his apartment. A firearm was discharged. Officers found a gunshot victim lying outside the apartment where the reported attempted entry occurred, according to the news release.  Officers administered medical aid until Kankakee Fire Department EMS arrived. The news release states the resident involved in the shooting was interviewed by police. The firearm used in the incident was recovered. Further investigation continues.

This is the fifth homicide in Kankakee this year, according to police.
