Ketchum named Watseka Fire Chief, new police officer hired

Long-time assistant Watseka fire chief Tim Ketchum is now the chief. The City Council’s public safety committee endorsed Ketchum (Tues evening), to replace veteran 16-year fire chief Dave Mayotte.

Ketchum’s promotion will be official at the full City Council meeting later this month.

Ketchum and Mayotte both commended each other for the working relationship they’ve had since 2006. Mayotte’s employment with Tri-State Fire Protection District in the Chicago-land suburb Darien forced his retirement as Watseka fire chief. He says he’ll still be involved locally, helping any way he can.

Mayotte was presented a plaque by Alderwoman Monna Ulfers and Mayor John Allhands, recognizing Mayotte’s years of service.

The public safety committee approved Ketchum’s promotion following executive session. The hiring of a new police officer was also approved. Curtis Marcott will join the ranks, filling a vacancy with the resignation of Josh Heeren. He’s joining the Iroquois County Sheriff’s department.
