Kinzinger bill to reduce Passport Application Backlog

District Congressman Adam Kinzinger and a few other lawmakers are introducing legislation meant to cut back on the backlog of passport applications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Passport Backlog Elimination Act seeks to process the 1.5 to 2.2 million pending passport applications. Currently, routine passport service can take up to 18 week and expedited service can take up to 12 weeks.

Kinzinger says he has heard from hundreds of Illinois residents about it. He says that people deserve answers on the status of their applications.
