GIBSON CITY – U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger believes Congress will soon reach an agreement on the Farm Bill.

The Republican lawmaker said Friday farmers need not worry. He expects an approval vote within a week or two, adding protection for the dairy industry is the only thing left to decide.

Kinzinger toured DuPont's Gibson City's soybean processing facility Friday afternoon.

Without a Farm Bill, the local soybean growers that sell more than $170 million of soybeans annually to DuPont will have a harder time making growing decisions, since some provisions in the bill deal with conservation practices and crop insurance.

The Farm Bill covers many programs, ranging from food stamps to farm subsidies. The last extension of the bill expired on Sept. 30 and provisions such as the dairy industry stabilizations expired at the end of the year, causing fear among consumers that milk prices may spike.

But, Kinzinger said he believes Congress will pass an extension if they can't come to an agreement on the bill soon.
