It’s often a history lesson that needs to be an everyday thing -- not just on Labor Day !

That’s the message so many people deliver as the war heroes are recognized.

Citizens attending a Veterans Day ceremony in Oakwood got a history lesson on the various branches of the Armed Services. The Oakwood American Legion delivered the lesson (Friday) as two new additions were dedicated at the community’s war memorial.

One of the two people honored on a new addition at the Oakwood memorial is Major David Audo. He was 35 when he was killed in Iraq on October 27th, 2009. Major Audo’s widow, Rebecca, was on hand for Friday’s dedication. She said ‘’I’m honored. I mean I’m happy that they’re doing this. I was surprised and it is a blessing. “.

And Rebecca Audo added that we need to remember there are still troops serving in harm’s way around the world.

Major Audo’s son...Austin, is a sixteen-year-old student at Oakwood High School. ‘’To me, every day should be Veterans Day,’’ said the teen. ‘’Today is just a special day because we get to add additional support to the Veterans on this day, and show them how much we appreciate them for their service.’’
