Indiana conservation police say alcohol and speed were factors in a recreational accident that left an Illinois woman dead last Saturday (7/12).
It happened just after 4:00 pm on Lake Shafer at Monticello.
Conservation officers reported 43-year-old Anne Wittstock of Burbank was driving a wave runner with a passenger on board.
For an unknown reason, she drove the wave runner into the NIPSCO security cables that are stretched across the lake to keep boaters away from the Norway Dam.
CPR efforts were administered by other boaters. The Monticello Fire Department transported Wittstock to the IU White Memorial Hospital, where she was flown to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and later pronounced dead.
The male passenger, Joseph Allen, also of Illiniois, was uninjured.
