THE LEGISLATION WAS NEEDED BECAUSE THE CURRENT APPROPRIATION FOR CALL CENTERS EXPIRES AT THE END OF JUNE. THIS MAKES SURE THEY KEEP RUNNING, ACCORDING TO REPRESENTATIVE CHAD HAYS OF DANVILLE.

PHONE SURCHARGES WOULD INCREASE SLIGHTLY TO HELP FUND 9-1-1 TECHNOLOGY NEEDS. THE BILL ALSO LETS A-T-AND-T PHASE OUT TRADITIONAL COPPER LANDLINES, BUT GIVES CUSTOMERS WITH THOSE OLD PHONES PLENTY OF NOTICE OF THE CHANGE AND OTHER OPTIONS.
