A four person Republican primary has taken shape in the sheriff's race in Livingston County.

The resignation of former sheriff Marty Meredith put the wheels in motion for what could be one of central-Illinois' most interesting political races for the March primary.

Chief Deputy Tony Childress, former Sheriff Marvin Rutledge, Dwight police officer Mark Scott and former Fairbury Police Chief Jack Wiser all filed their petitions.

The filing period for the March 2014 primary for county, state and congressional races ended Monday.
Former Pontiac Police Chief Al Lindsey was named sheriff in October after Meredith's resignation.

Childress was initially sworn in as sheriff as Meredith's designated successor, but the Livingston County Board appointed Lindsey so as not to give an unfair advantage to any of the candidates running in the March primary. Lindsey said he would not seek the job on a permanent basis.
