Loaded Hand Guns Found in Vehicle Possible Connection with Hopkins Park Shooting

Illinois State Police District 21 is reporting the arrest of 34-year-old Lamar V. Lillard of St. Anne for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and 27-year-old Vernon M. Griffith of St. Anne Wanted on a Warrant.   

 

A trooper conducted a traffic stop Friday and spoke with the driver, Lillard. The odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath led to a field sobriety test which Lillard failed. Lillard was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The front seat passenger, Griffith was taken into custody on a Kankakee County Warrant for Aggravated Battery/Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Weapon in connection with a recent shooting that took place in Hopkins Park.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol under the front passenger seat and a loaded .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol under the driver’s seat. The gun's serial number had been defaced.

Lillard and Griffith were jailed in Kankakee County. Charges range from alcohol violations to weapons possession without valid FOID cards.
