Loda man charged with purse snatching, meth possession

Bond was set at $100,000 in Champaign County for a Loda man charged with Possession of Meth and for Stealing a woman’s purse. 26-yr-old Andrew Stover allegedly had methamphetamine in his vehicle Wednesday after being detained in a purse-snatching.

Champaign Police reported a woman reported her purse stolen from her truck as she returned a shopping cart at retail outlet. Security video showed a man exit a Jeep and enter the woman’s truck before speeding away. University of Illinois police officers stopped the Jeep not long after and identified the driver as 26-year-old Andrew Stover.

In the Jeep was the woman’s purse. Police also found two plastic bags: a small one with white powder that later tested positive for cocaine.  Court records show Stover has previous convictions for burglary, theft, driving under the influence and driving under revocation.
