Lowell shooting results in arrest of off-duty police officer

The shooting death of a 42-year-old man in an unincorporated area of Lowell, IN now has an off-duty police officer from Highland in custody. The un-identified officer is affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s department.

42-year-old Nicohlas Lile was pronounced dead early Sunday morning. He suffered a fatal gunshot wound at home in Lincoln Court, according to the Coroner’s Office. The sheriff's department responded to the home to investigate an altercation following a 911 call received just after midnight. Lile was found unresponsive. Sheriff Oscar Martinez said the investigation is ongoing.
