Manslaughter charge filed in Watseka stabbing

Iroquois County Circuit Judge James Kinzer set bond at $150,000 (Friday) for 23-year-old Andre Maiden of Kankakee.  He's now charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and aggravated battery in the stabbing death of a Watseka man Thursday afternoon. 

22-year-old Isaiah Nelson died of a stab wound to the neck.  He was taken to IMH in Watsek after an altercationb with Maiden on E. Oak Street in Watseka. The altercation unfoled, according to witnesses, outside the Baier Funeral Home where a visitation was being held.  Police are reviewing video surveillance from surrounding businesses to watch the altercation and gather evidence. Witneses said Maiden was claiming self-defense, that Nelson came after him with a knife when the altercation started.

Watseka Police were called to the E. Oak Street location about 4:15 pm where they found Nelson had suffered a stab wound to the neck. Maiden had also sought treatment for a stab wound at IMH. 

Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum scheduled an autospy on Nelson Friday.
