The intersection of 9000N and 5000W roads in rural Manteno now is a four-way stop.

A safety study, after several accidents at the site, resulted in Kankakee County officials installing the 4-way stop signs this week.

Five crashes in just a 12-month period stirred action.
North-south traffic was required to stop with posted signs. Now, east-west motorists will also see stop signs. And there will be “stop ahead” advisory signs and flashing red lights at the intersection.

Whitten, Rockville Township road commissioner Jon Whitten said, the problems intersection has been an issue dating back 10+ years. He said something had to be done, even though some said speeding was also an issue with the intersection and the number of crashes there.
