The Kankakee Fire Department has a new interim-Chief. A veteran member of the department, Damon Schuldt of Martinton, was named to post by Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong. Captain Schuldt has served the department is several capacities over 26 years.

The search for a new chief continues. The mayor said she has no timetable.

The most recent resignation by Interim-Chief Phil Perkins was the second veteran member of the department to leave in five months. Perkins submitted his resignation to former mayor Nina Epstein before she left office. Perkins, a member of the department since 1994, was named interim-chief after Chief Ron Young retired last November.

Mayor Wells-Armstrong is also seeking a new Police Chief. Larry Regnier (Ring-E) announced his retirement a day after Mayor Wells-Armstrong won election.
