WATSEKA –
American Legion Post #23 hosting its Memorial Day Service Monday, May 30 at 11 am at the Legion Park Tower site. A wreath laying and Honor Guard salute will feature Major Aaron Hattabauth as speaker.
STOCKLAND –
Sugar Creek Chapel at Stockland will host its Memorial Day Service Sunday, May29 at 2 pm. Milford Christian Church Pastor Brent Zastrow delivers the message. ( Watseka Legion Post #23 will handle the cemetery ceremony).
SHELDON –
American Legion Post #393 invites the public to the Sheldon Cemetery at 11 am Monday. Larry Callahan is guest speaker. ABRA serves lunch at the Community Center following the service.
CHEBANSE –
The Chebanse American Legion and Women's Auxiliary conducts a Memorial Day Service at 10 am Monday, May 30 at Evergreen Cemetery.
CISSNA PARK --
American Legion Post #527 hosting its Memorial Day Service Monday, May 30 at 9 am in the village park. Speaker is Matt Montgomery of St. John's Lutheran Church – Ash Grove. The Legion drill team is also involved.
RANKIN –
Cissna Park's Legion drill team will also conduct a service Memorial Day at the Rankin cemetery. The service is at 10 am Monday, May 30.
ONARGA-GILMAN-DANFORTH –
Three cemetery visits are planned for Memorial Day Services. American Legion members will be at the Danforth Cemetery at 8:30 am Monday. A 9:30 am service is at the Gilman cemetery and 10:30 am at the Onarga cemetery. The Iroquois West High School band will perform at all three services.
Gilman native Matt Kreeb, a soldier at the Tomb of the Unknown will speak at Gilman. Former State Legislator Shane Cultra is the speaker at Onarga.
THAWVILLE –
The Thawville American Legion post will host a Memorial Day service at 11:15 am Monday, May 30, at Ridgeland Township Cemetery. The Iroquois West High School Band performs and there's a 21- gun salute. Rodger Bennett, the commander of the Thawville American Legion post and past state commander and national executive committeeman will serve as speaker. . In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Legion Post in Thawville.
BUCKLEY--
The American Legion Byron A. Hickerson Post 432 of Buckley will hold Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30 at three area cemeteries.... 9:30 am at the Lisk Cemetery in rural Thawville, 10 am at the Ash Grove cemetery at Buckley, 10:30 am at Woodland/St. John's Cemetery.
The American Legion Auxiliary of Buckley will serve refreshments at the Legion Post.
GIBSON CITY/ELLIOTT
Gibson City's Memorial Day parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, from in front of the former Moyer District Library building on Sangamon Avenue. Parade entries will begin lining up at 9 a.m. The parade members will then make their way south on Sangamon Avenue and continue to Drummer Township Cemetery for special memorial services around 11 a.m. at the Drummer Creek Veterans Memorial in Gibson City. Following the ceremonies in Gibson City, the Legion will travel to Elliott Cemetery for memorial services there, likely to begin around noon. Students from Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School will deliver a song at the services. Two of the students will play "Taps." In the case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Legion post in Gibson City.
LODA—
Loda American Legion Post 503 welcomes the public at 10 am Monday, May 30, at Pine Ridge Cemetery. The Post 503 color guard will be present. The guest speaker will be the pastor of the Loda United Methodist Church.
MELVIN –
A Memorial Day service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Melvin Cemetery in Melvin. The Rev. Paula Wallace of the Melvin Methodist Church will provide an opening address. There will be special music by the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School chamber choir.
PAXTON –
Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150 will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Glen Cemetery in Paxton. Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School's marching band will give a musical tribute. The speaker will be PBL High School band director Tim Hess, a former Marine. The ceremony immediately follows the Memorial Day parade at 10:30 am.
PIPER CITY--
The Piper City American Legion Post is conducting a Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, on the bandstand in downtown Piper City. The speaker will be the Rev. Wade Ditty of the local Presbyterian church. Immediately after the service, additional services will be held by the post at Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Brenton Cemetery in rural Piper City. At each cemetery, a 21-gun salute respects deceased veterans.
ROBERTS--
The Wagner-Davis Legion Post in Roberts will hold a Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Roberts Gym. The speaker will be the Rev. Priscilla Gerdes. The Legion post's firing squad will be in attendance.
