Memorial Day Events ...

Several area Memorial Day services are on the calendar... some on Sunday, others on the holiday itself, Monday, May 29.

American Legion Post 23 in Watseka invites participation to the Legion Park Memorial at 11 am Monday. Volunteers are also  seeking donations for the Poppy Sales today and Saturday.  Veterans will line the streets at intersections in Crescent City, Milford and Watseka.

Onarga's Memorial Day Parade is set for 9:45 am Monday.  A walk to the cemetery where a program is scheduled for 10;30 am.  The parade lineup is at the Onarga Methodist Church parking lot at 9:30 in the morning.

There's a 9 am service Monday at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Loda.  Loda American Legion Post 503 welcomes attendees.

Donovan Legion Post #633 also invites visitors to the park in Martinton Sunday at 2 pm

The Cissna Park Legion hosting its Memorial Day services in the local park at 9 am Monday, then in Rankin at 10:30 am.

Chebanse American Legion members and the Auxiliary Team will pay tribute the veterans who gave their lives defending our freedom.  There's a 10 am event Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.

Manteno American Legion Color Guard members will visit a series of area cemeteries Monday, ending at Legion Park in Manteno at 11 am.  The trek begins at 8 am at Deselm Cemetery... 8:30 at Blooms Grove Cemetery... 9 am at Veterans cemetery... 9:30 at St. Joseph Cemetery and 9:50 at the Elmwood Cemetery.  The Color Guard will step off at 10:45 from Legion Post #755 to the Legion Park Memorial for the 11 am service.

The Pembroke NABVETS  habe scheduled a 10 am service Monday at Angel of Peace Cemetery.

Kankakee County's Veterans' Council has two events set for Monday.  The first is at 9 am at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Route 17-East and then at 10:30 on the Courthosue Lawn downtown Kankakee.  Military Rites and Posting of Colors are part of the programs.  {The Veterans Council volunteers are placing flags at cemetery gravesites today (Friday) }.
