Memorial Day services Iroquois, Ford counties

Several area communities are hosting Memorial Day services this weekend....

WATSEKA > American Legion Post #23 and V.F.W. Post #7450 and respective auxiliary members invite the public to the Legion Park monument at 11 am Monday.

SUGAR CREEK CHAPEL > Memorial Day Services are Sunday at 2 pm at Sugar Creek Chapel near Stockland. All area veterans are invited to participate.

MARTINTON > Donovan American Legion Post $633 conducts a Memorial Day Observance Sunday, May 24th, at 2 pm. The program is at the park in Martinton.

SHELDON > Memorial Day Services are Monday, May 25th at the Sheldon Cemtery. The 11 am event will be moved to the Sheldon Community Center in case of rain.

CHEBANSE > The Chebanse American Legion and Womens Auxoliary invites the public to Evergreen Cemetery at 10 am Monday.

HERSCHER > American Legion Post #795 and its Auxiliary will host a Memorial Day Observance Monday at the Legion Community Center. Start time is 10:30 am


BUCKLEY > American Legion Byron A. Hickerson Post 432 of Buckley will hold Memorial Day services on Monday, May 25, at three area cemeteries.... 9:30 am at the Lisk Cemetery in rural Thawville....10 am at the Ash Grove cemetery in rural Buckley... 10:30 am at Woodland/St. John's Cemetery. Immediately following the 10:30 services at Woodland/St. John's Cemetery, the American Legion Auxiliary of Buckley will serve refreshments at the Legion Post. In case of rain, the services will also be held at the Legion post.

CISSNA PARK > Cissna Park American Legion Post 527 will host Memorial Day services at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the village park. The speaker will be Matt Kreeb, a Fisher resident and former guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The service will include a veterans memorial dedication and an appearance by the Legion's drill team.

ONARGA/GILMAN/DANFORTH > Memorial Day services are scheduled for Monday, May 25, in Danforth, Gilman and Onarga. The service in Danforth starts at 8:30 a.m at the Danforth Cemetery. The Gilman service is at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the Onarga Cemetery will host its service. The Iroquois West High School band will perform at each of the services.

THAWVILLE > The Thawville American Legion post will host a Memorial Day service around 11:15 am Monday at Ridgeland Township Cemetery. The service will include music performed by the Iroquois West High School band.

LODA > The Loda American Legion Post 503 is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Pine Ridge Cemetery. The honor roll will also be read of departed members of the military who were either buried at the cemetery or elsewhere but are from Loda Township.


FORD COUNTY SERVICES INCLUDE ......


GIBSON CITY/ELLIOTT > Gibson City's Memorial Day parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday. The parade members will make their way to Drummer Township Cemetery for special memorial services around 11 a.m. at the Drummer Creek Veterans Memorial in Gibson City. Following the ceremonies in Gibson City, the Legion will travel to Elliott Cemetery for memorial servicesaround noon. In the case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Legion post in Gibson City.

MELVIN > A Memorial Day service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at the Melvin Cemetery. There will be special music by the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School chamber choir, with "Taps" played by a GCMS band member. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Melvin Community Hall.

PAXTON > Paxton American Legion Prairie Post 150 will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Glen Cemetery in Paxton. Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School's marching band will give a musical tribute. The ceremony immediately follows the Memorial Day parade which begins at 10:30 a.m.

PIPER CITY > The Piper City American Legion post is conducting a Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, on the bandstand in downtown Piper City. Immediately after the service, additional services will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Brenton Cemetery in rural Piper City.

RANKIN > The Cissna Park American Legion's drill team will hold a Memorial Day service at Rankin Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 25.

ROBERTS > The Wagner-Davis Legion Post in Roberts will its Memorial Day service at 9 a.m. Monday at the Roberts Gym.
