Memory of slain Vermilion County deputy still recognized

The Sergeant Myron Deckard Memorial Fund has received another donation from the Danville Rifle & Pistol Club. The donation through the Danville Area Community College Foundation brings to nearly $70-thousand dollars the amount of money that has been donated in memory of Deckard.

Deckard served on the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department over 32 years. He was killed June 6th, 2001 when a prisoner he was transporting managed to grab Deckard's gun.

Tracy Wahlfeldt is Executive Director of the Danville Area Community College Foundation.

''We cannot thank the Danville Rifle and Pistol Club enough for their continued generosity and hard work,'' says Wahlfeldt. ''This latest, generous gift (of nearly $7,500) provides more scholarship assistance to Danville Area Community College students. It is amazing what an impact a small group of individuals can make.''
