Middle School Raiders Regional Champs, first in 35 years

                                                          Next Up: Sectional at St. Joe

Seventh inning heroics, two games in a row, for the Iroquois West Middle School baseball team.  And the now 16-1 Raiders are headed to Sectional play Saturday at St. Joseph.

A caravan of well-wishers ushered the Regional Champion Raiders thru Danforth, Gilman and Onarga Monday after the Raiders defeated Bishop McNamara, 4-2, Monday in the Regional C-ship. Mac had one the Regional title the last two seasons and had not lost in 55 games dating back to September 2020.

The Raiders had been no-hit thru 6 innings against the Irish. But I-West put 4 runs on the board in the top of the 7th, then held of Mac in the last of the 7th to bring it home --- 4-2 and the Regional title !

(The Raiders scored 4 runs on just 3 hits) Ayden Miller, Caleb Fauser and Owen Robinson each collected hits, Robinson and Mikel Avalos had RBI’s.
Brody Mueller and Ontiveros shared the pitching duties, 6 K’s.

Saturday – Iroquois West squeezed out a 2-1 win over Beecher in the semi-final matchup, scoring the game-winner in the last of the 7th.
Owen Robinson, Alex Avalos and Brune Haase each went 2 for 3. Ayden Miller added a hit.
Miller strucj out 8 in 5 innings, Ontiveros fanned 2 in his 2 innings on the mound.

Consectutive last-inning heroics bring I-West Reg’l C-ship and a trip to Sectionals Saturday vs St. Joe !!
