Milford second-grader students Mattison Johnson and Gavin Schunke will take their now-how to Springfield next week. The students will be demonstrating to state legislators and other adults how technology is used to improve student achievement.

Milford Grade School is one of about 60 Illinois schools that will participate in TECH 2014, an annual "Students for the Information Age" event to be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield.

Milford teacher Terese Hancock and district technology director Kena Clark also will participate.

Computer workstations will be set up in the Capitol Building Rotunda so students may show how technology has helped them with their schoolwork.

The Milford students will demonstrate their project "Breaking News! Speaking, Fluency, and Technology!" for students in kindergarten through third grade.

According to a submitted news release, Newsmaker, is a technology tool to enhance writing, speaking, listening, and presentation skills.
