Missing boater’s body found in Kankakee River

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Kankakee County emergency responders report the body of a Chicago man was found (Thursday). 67-year-old Michael Stefano and his dog (Buster) went missing after the boat they were in June 8 hit a logjam and capsized.

A second man on the boat managed to reach safety.

Stefano and the dog were swept under the fast-moving current about a quarter-mile from the Illinois-Indiana state line. The dog’s body was found Wednesday. The Coroner’s Office identified the body of Stefano late Thursday morning.
