Illinois has at least 19 cases of the coronavirus that originated from China, and two of the six cases announced Tuesday are in the Chicago suburbs. The rest of the cases, including some people who have recovered and been released, were in Cook County. Public health officials say halting the spread of the virus may include prohibiting certain large gatherings as is being done in other parts of the country. Organizers for Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade canceled that event.

Governor Pritzker and public health officials are continuing daily updates. The World Health Organization today declared tzhe situation a pandemic.
