Pleasant weather conditions this weekend should give church groups and other volunteers plenty of opportunity to progress with flood clean-up details. Several area counties, in both Illinois and Indiana, have agencies making progress with debris removal and damage assessments.
Resource Centers have been established with cleaning supplies, food and clothing being distributed to flood victims.
In Iroquois County --- assistance is coordinated thru the Emergency Management Agency. Those in need can call 815-432-6997.
Food Pantry Help ----
Beginning Monday (3/12), the Watseka Food Pantry is serving its regular clients in addition to the flood victims affected by the flood. Hours at the Watseka First United Methodist Church are 1 – 3 pm. Appointments are needed. Food, clothing and monetary donations are welcome.
Also --- MENARDS home improvement store is serving as a drop-off site for a local food pantry thru the month of March. MENARDS management states, they’re excited to participate in the opportunity while lending support to the community. MENARDS itself, offers its own wide variety of non-perishable food items that can be donated to the food pantries.
Iroquois Federal steps up as Community Leader >
The Iroquois Federal Foundation announced that they recently made a $20,000 contribution to the Iroquois County Long Term Recovery Committee to assist with their efforts in helping Iroquois County residents affected by the current flooding disaster. As the damage assessment continues, initial estimates indicate that over 225 homes throughout Iroquois County have been impacted by this disaster.
Walter “Chip” Hasselbring, President and CEO of Iroquois Federal, said “Iroquois Federal, established in 1883, has always been an active participant in our communities.” In addition to the direct financial support provided to the community, we will again establish a special flood deposit account for flood damage insurance checks. Flood victims will earn a higher rate of interest for a period of time while waiting for the repairs or raising of their homes. Our loan officers continue to work with our borrowers and other residents to discuss options to mediate other issues associated with the flooding. And, Hasselbring adds, the Iroquois Federal team at Iroquois Insurance is well versed on benefits, costs and availability of flood insurance for individuals both in and out of the designated flood hazard area.
