More Kankakee gunfire, community leaders demand answers to the violence

South Evergreen Avenue in Kankakee is the latest area where gunfire was reported in the city. This incident Wednesday night, in the 300-block. Police said witnesses informed them the shots came from a drive-by vehicle, a blue-colored sedan. A parked vehicle was hit by the gunfire. No one else injured.

Kankakee Police also reported the arrest of a man after a report of a suspicious person in a parking lot in the 16-hundred block of E. Court Street. 34-year-old Dominic Johnson of Kankakee was arrested. Police said a search of the vehicle revealed a handgun reported stolen out of Missouri.

           Community leaders seeks answers –

Some four-dozen plus citizens and community leaders gathered for a press conference (Wednesday) voicing concern about the violence in the city. Several spoke about their fears about even children being shot.

Aldermen, police officers and neighbors are demanding some accountability. They want to get to the root of the problem and hold people accountable for their ill-actions. Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong said this has to be a united effort by the entire community.
