Manteno officials are asking for the public's help in naming a new plaza. A contest will review suggestions submitted between now and September 1st. The hope is to have the 2nd Street plaza ready for the Oktoberfest celebration.
Sarah Marion, Manteno's event coordinator, said the public input will be important and the hope suggested names will be community-focused. The village has launched its "Name the Plaza Contest" and already has received several recommendations from the public.
"We figured we would extend the offer to members of the community rather than just come up with a random name," Marion said. "It's a plaza for the community, and we want the community's input."
Those interested in submitting a name must complete an application that can be found on the village's website or village hall, 93 E. Third St. Entries can be delivered to village hall or emailed to Marion at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
The deadline for entries is Sept. 1. The winner will be invited to participate in the the plaza's ribbon-cutting ceremony and will be recognized at a village board meeting.
