New Chief Justice selected for Illinois Supreme Court

Justice Lloyd Karmeier has been named the Illinois Supreme Court’s new chief justice.

The Nashville, Illinois resident will be installed during a ceremony at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield October 31st.

Justice Karmeier will take over when the 3-year term of current Chief Justice Rita Garman of Danville ends next month.

Chief Justice Garman extended her congratulations to Justice Karmeier on his selection to be the chief justice. Justice Garman said ‘’I have known Justice Karmeier for many years and hold him in the highest regard.’’

‘’I have always appreciated his thoughtful legal analysis and his judicial temperament. Justice Karmeier is one of those rare individuals who can graciously offer and accept constructive criticism,’’ she added.

Chief Justice Garman noted as she leaves the leadership role on the Illinois Supreme Court ‘’there are several projects and initiatives that have begun over the past three years, but are not yet fully realized.’’ And Justice Garman added that she knows that ‘’these projects will be in capable hands.
