Summer vacation has come to an end and as students head back to the classrooms, area law enforcement officials are emphasizing safety. The motoring public is reminded to slow it down and be extra cautious in and near school zones.

School bus traffic is also another reminder for drivers to pay attention to slowing and stopped school buses. Traffic is required to stop in both directions for stopped school buses.

Today (Monday) is an abbreviated calendar day on day one for some school districts. Some districts have their first full-day of school Tuesday. Others are getting started later in the week or next week. Still other districts are already underway.

High school districts have fall semester after-school activities underway too. The football season begins this Friday night in Indiana --- North & South Newton meet in the season-opener. Hear the action on 94.1 WGFA.

Illinois schools are hosting pre-season scrimmages this Friday evening. The Illinois prep football season begins Friday, August 28th.
