The new school year begins this week or next.

And area police are reminding motorists about the 20 mile per hour speed limit in school zones. Motorists also need to put those cell phones away. It is illegal to talk on cell phones while driving in a school zone.

Police also note in addition to obeying school zone speed laws, motorists need to obey laws regarding school buses. There's no passing a school bus when the red lights are flashing and the cross arm is extended from the bus.
