A Wednesday afternoon fire destroyed a home in Newton County. Brook Fire chief Kyle Conrad said it appeared to electrical in nature. The homeowner had left for short time and returned home to find the room where her air-conditioner was located on fire.
The Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call just before 3 pm.
Karen Seymour’s children were not at home during the fire. Most of the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The home was considered a total loss. No one was injured.
Thirty-seven firefighters from the Brook, Goodland, Morocco and Kentland fire departments responded. Firemen were at the scene for six hours.
