Newton County traffic stop brings felony drug charges

A Chicago man was jailed in Newton County, In todat after a traffic stop near Kentland.  A K9 sniffed out 46 grams of marijuana and 36 grams of suspected ecstacy after the stop on U.S 41 at 1 pm.  A state trooper clocked  26-year-old Shyheim McCoy at 80 mph.  When the stop was attempted, McCoy allegedly sped up to 105 mph before the final stop near Kentland.  Police also recovered a loaded 9mm handgun sinside the vehicle.  Charges against McCoy include: dealing a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, felony poession of a firearm by a serious offender, reckless driving and operating without a license.
