The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating an industrial incident at a manufacturing plant in Watseka that took the life of a worker. It happened early Saturday at the Lyon LLC facility.
64-year-old Richard Malone of Watseka died of injuries when an overhead door struck him in the head. The door had apparently become stuck and when Malone tried to free the door after his shift ended around 3 am, it fell on him. Video surveillance revealed the follow-up shift of workers discovered Malone pinned under the overhead door.
Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum said Malone died of blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at 4:27 am Saturday. An autopsy was completed in Bloomington.
The Lyon LLC facility is a metal-stamping operation, specializing in the production of lockers.
