A one-vehicle crash south of Paxton (Friday) claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl from Rantoul. The accident is under investigation by the Ford County Sheriff's Department and the Champaign County Coroner.

Dakota Odom was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana just before 5 pm. Reports stated she lost control of her car and struck a tree near 276 N. Ford County Road 1900 East around 3:30 pm.

Miss Odom and a back-seat passenger, a 17-year-old male, were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated. A front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old female, was ejected prior to the impact.

Odom was traveling behind another vehicle which began to make a turn. Miss Odom began to go around the vehicle, went off the road and overcorrected.
