Paxton man enters not guilty plea in fatal stabbing

A Paxton man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the death of another Paxton man in a fatal stabbing outside a local tavern.

The defense attorney indicated (Monday) he would argue self-defense as justification for the fatal stabbing.
33-year-old Sean Kelley is charged for the October 17 stabbing death of Jeffrey D. Potts. Kelly remains in the Ford County jail.

Judge Stephen Pacey agreed to reduce the million dollar bond to $250,000.

The 49-year-old Potts was pronounced dead at Carle Hospital in Urbana. An autopsy showed he died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Police reported the stabbing occurred outside Shooky's Bar on Main Street in Paxton.
