Piper City man accused of stealing $20,000 from his elderly father

A Piper City man is facing charges for allegedly stealing about $20,000 in Social Security and pension payments from his elderly father.

38-year-old John F. Weller Jr.is jailed in Ford County on a $100,000 bond. He's charged with a felony - unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person.

Weller Jr. was acting as the "representative payee" of Social Security and pension benefits for his father, John F. Weller Sr.

The benefits totaled $1,500 per month in Social Security payments and $259 per month in payments for the elder Weller's pension. During a 13-month period starting back in April of 2012, Weller Jr. allegedly never deposited the funds in his father's bank account and also allegedly did not pay his father's utility bills.
